Where is Falmouth, Cape Cod?

Falmouth is located in the southwest corner of Cape Cod, less than 20 minutes south of the Bourne Bridge and closer to the mainland than most parts of the Cape. Falmouth is known for its beautiful beaches, boasting the gentle waters of Buzzards Bay on one side and the Vineyard Sound on the other.

Beaches in Falmouth, MA

We have to start with the beaches. Our favorite is Old Silver Beach, a gorgeous beach with white sand located in North Falmouth. Old Silver Beach has both resident and public parking lots, so feel free to check it out on your next trip. Be sure to get there early as the public lot is small and fills up fast!

The Falmouth Beach Department maintains and staffs 10 beaches in Falmouth. These are Bristol, Chapoquoit, Falmouth Heights, Menauhant East, Old Silver (Public), Old Silver (Residents), Megansett and Megansett West, Surf Drive, Stony, and Wood Neck Beaches. There is also Grews Pond in Goodwill Park.

Town beaches that charge a parking fee do have lifeguards, restrooms, and concession stands for your use while visiting. Be sure to do your research ahead of time to determine what beaches are open to the public. If the beach requires a sticker, can a day pass be purchased? If so, where and for how much? Depending on where you are staying, you may have access to a temporary beach pass, so be sure to ask!

Playgrounds in Falmouth, MA

In the 3 days, we spent in Falmouth, we were able to check out 3 incredible playgrounds for the kids to play on. We typically ended up at the playgrounds after breakfast and were able to park at each play space without issue. All 3 playgrounds were clean and well-maintained, with 2/3 being fenced in.

Falmouth Recreation Community Playground

This conveniently located playground is located right on Main Street in Falmouth. We stopped by after breakfast at Mary Ellen’s Portuguese Bakery to let the kids play and enjoy our coffees.

This park is located adjacent to Fuller Field, a baseball field with lots of Canadian geese that the kids enjoyed watching. The playground is fenced, which is always a plus. The playground equipment ranged from swings and slides for JJ to climbing apparatuses that Lady A enjoyed.

The posted age range is 2-12 years and it truly did have something for everyone. There were swings for infants, and bigger kids, along with an adaptive swing.

Mullen-Hall Playground

Mullen-Hall Playground is also located on Main Street in Falmouth, across the street from the public library at Mullen-Hall School. This is a wooden playground with a seaside feel.

There are boats to climb on, a lighthouse, and ocean-themed paintings within the play space. The playground also offers benches under the shade for parents to sit.

Carousel of Light

This playground is adjacent to and shares a lawn with, Falmouth’s Carousel of Light. The carousel is gorgeous, with hand-carved horses, and has been there for over 10 years. Be sure to check the Carousel of Light’s website for their current hours as they vary from Spring to Summer.

Bonus, this carousel plays modern kids’ music! No organ music for these riders, we listened to Maui singing “You’re Welcome ” on our ride!

Goodwill Park

You can easily spend an entire day at Goodwill Park! There are picnic spaces, hiking trails, a pond, beach volleyball, grills for cooking, and of course, the playground. Because of all the trees, there is a lot of shade in this park.

The playground at Goodwill Park features an impressive climbing apparatus made of ropes. While it is very high, I felt safe with Lady A at the top because there would be so many rope nets to catch her, if she were to fall.

The playground also boasts traditional seesaws and swings, along with newer aged spinning seats and rope bridges to climb. There is a younger kids’ area to the back of the playground that was impressive with slides, bridges, and climbing for smaller kids.

Where to Eat in Falmouth, MA with Kids

As with most of Cape Cod, the restaurant options are endless in Falmouth! I was impressed that every restaurant we went to had not only a kids’ menu but kid-friendly cups with lids. Thank you, Falmouth Restaurants!

Where to Eat Breakfast in Falmouth, MA with Kids

We thoroughly enjoyed Mary Ellen’s Portuguese Bakery and the Talk of the Town Diner for breakfast.

Mary Ellen’s Portuguese Bakery

Don’t let the name fool you, while Mary Ellen’s offers delicious fresh baked goods, they also serve a full breakfast.

Located right on Main Street in Falmouth, Mary Ellen’s Portuguese Bakery is a cash-only breakfast and lunch spot open Monday-Saturday 5 am-2 pm, and Sunday 6 am-2 pm. While small, we had no trouble getting a table and service is quick.

Mary Ellen’s has a kids’ breakfast menu, which was a huge hit with my littles. JJ loved his plain pancakes and Lady A was quite smitten with her pancakes-one banana and one chocolate chip, thank you. My husband raved about his breakfast sandwich on a Portuguese roll and my Breakfast wrap was just big enough without weighing me down.

Talk of the Town Diner

I was pleasantly surprised by the Talk of the Town Diner. Located in a strip plaza in North Falmouth, the diner is surprisingly big inside with lots of seated tables and a breakfast bar too. Talk of the Town Diner is open daily from 7 am to 2 pm, serving breakfast and lunch.

I chose banana pancakes at the diner and they were fluffy and delicious! JJ also loved his plain pancakes, and Lady A her chocolate chip pancakes. Hubby got adventurous and branched out from the pancake world to a delicious meal aptly named “The Cape Cod.” His French toast looked and smelled absolutely incredible! Unfortunately, it was gone before I had a chance to try a bite!

Where to Eat Lunch in Falmouth, MA with Kids

Anejo in Falmouth, MA with Kids

We ate lunch in Falmouth one day of our weekend trip. Anejo on Main Street was at the top of our list as we both have eaten there before (without kids) and love their food.

Thankfully Anejo also has a kids’ menu so the little ones were just as happy as we were to eat lunch there. I have to rave about my carne asada tacos first and foremost. They are amazing! The kids had tacos and quesadillas, but they also have mac and cheese available (not Kraft if your kid is picky like mine!).

Our server was lovely, so patient and kind with the kids and our meal came quickly. The restaurant is bustling enough that the kids’ being loud is not an issue. There is also inside and outside seating.

Red’s Restaurant and Lounge Takeout

Red’s Restaurant and Lounge is located at the Sea Crest Beach Hotel, where we stayed this weekend. There is a sit-down restaurant with huge windows overlooking Old Silver Beach. We chose to do their takeout menu and it was so convenient!

The takeout window for Red’s is located right outside the pool, next to the bar, at the Sea Crest Beach Hotel. The full kids’ menu is available for takeout and includes a drink. We ordered a large cheese pizza, Caesar salad, chicken tenders, and macaroni and cheese and it was ready in about 25-30 minutes.

The food was delicious, but most importantly it was easy, quick, and kid-friendly. We ate right at the pool, easily finding available chairs and a table that had cleared out as the evening approached.

Seafood Sam’s, Falmouth

Seafood Sam’s Falmouth conveniently located right on Palmer Avenue, is a parent’s dream. There is a huge parking lot, easy ordering (online or in person), delicious seafood and kid-friendly non-seafood options, very reasonable prices, and plenty of seating! Food comes up quickly and as a bonus, there is a ginormous Adirondack chair out front for family vacation photos. Oh, and Seafood Sam’s offers inside and outside seating. Talk about having it all on vacation!

I wish I had known about the super convenient online ordering that Seafood Sam’s offers. I quickly scanned the menu while herding the kids into the restaurant, then we went to the table and Hubby ordered for all of us to keep things moving. But, my fried haddock was cooked perfectly, and the rice side accompanied it beautifully, so I don’t regret that choice!

The kids had chicken tenders, pasta with butter, applesauce, and rolls and were quite happy. Hubby had the lobster and was quite pleased with his meal as well.

I love the photos we were able to get of the kids outside on the huge Adirondack chair after dinner! They thought it was so cool to climb up and pose and we love having those memories of them.
